Acumen

Acumen was founded in 2012 by entrepreneur Eric Yuan, who set out to build a world-class Napa Valley estate inspired by the balanced, age-worthy Cabernets of the 1960s and ’70s. Guided today by Winemaker Phillip Titus and Vineyard Manager Domenick Bianco, Acumen farms two high-elevation estate vineyards on Atlas Peak—sites known for their cool climate, volcanic soils, and ideal conditions for mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. These vineyards, originally developed by pioneering growers like Dr. Jan Krupp, offer diverse exposures and elevations that contribute to Acumen’s nuanced, vineyard-driven wines.
Building on the foundation laid by founding winemaker Denis Malbec, Acumen crafts small-production wines from its best vineyard blocks, selecting the finest barrels to showcase the purity, structure, and elegance of Atlas Peak fruit. While most estate grapes are sold to leading Napa Valley wineries, Acumen’s own wines stand out for their precision, complexity, and long-term aging potential. Today, the winery is recognized as a rising benchmark for mountain winemaking on Atlas Peak, dedicated to expressing the region’s distinctive terroir and elevating it on the world stage.
